PSST...FREE INTERNET, But......

It's Dial-Up.

http://www.metconnect.com/

I discovered this service a long time ago when I got my first computer and broadband was not as widely available as it is now. I would suggest this service if you either cannot afford DSL/Cable internet connection, as a backup connection if your broadband connection shits out on you OR for an older family member who does not do any heavy downloading or power surfing on the internet and just needs to check email, I.M. chat and casual internet browsing.

1. All you will need is a Dial-up modem.
2. Phone service.
3. A phone line connected to your Dial-up modem.
4. Within Network Connections follow the New Connection Wizard, set up a internet connection manually and select the dial-up modem option and fill in the proper info.
5. MetConnect Access Numbers (Copy & Save #'s):
212-359-2000
347-562-0000
516-630-2000
631-236-0000
646-496-0000
845-727-9001
914-595-8001

Remember this is FREE service so don't get pissy if you get a busy signal, try another # or actually call the phone number before your computer dials up to see if you get an internet connection tone or a busy signal.

Within New York and corresponding area codes you will be charged as if you were making a regular phone call; it helps if you have an unlimited service so you won't get charged the length of time you've been using your phone line for this service. You can also set your connection (An option when you are up to of step 4 above) to disconnect when someone calls you. You can have them call your cell phone while you surf or suggest this to the person you are setting this up for.

If you're out of town then it will help if you have phone service with an unlimited regional/long distance service.

Most older computers usually have Dial-up modems by default. Because of high speed internet most new computers dont come with a Dial-up modem unless you request it.

If you already have a modem and never used it then you're not using it to its full potential cuz it doubles as a fax machine within your own computer (send & receiving). All you have to do is properly connect the phone line to your computer and enable the fax option within your operating system and learn how to use it. Please search online (Google) for the steps to achieve this.

Make sure you set this up right or forward this to your computer guy for further implementation. Dont blame my ass if you dont follow the step or do something wrong. I am open to answering any questions you may have about this.

DISCLAIMER: Please check and double check your voice services plan so you (or those you help) do not get charged insane fees with a "I think" mentality. Verify your phone plan and then start the above steps. I am in no way responsible for someone cutting corners and getting stuck with a huge phone bill.

FileHippo.com - For The Lazy Computer Asses

Have you ever had problems with certain important old computer programs and wish you knew where to get updates aside from Windows Update? Wanted freeware programs rather than pay another company for a program to do the same thing? Well FileHippo.com is for you.

They have an UPDATE CHECKER program you install on your computer and it automatically scans your computer for programs they offer updates for so you can stay up-to-date and not run into conflicts when doing your day to day computer/internet use. I can attest to this program as being AD & Malware free. You will not get pop-ups or any crazyness when installing this program.

I've been using FileHippo for a few months now and they are a good site to get updates to programs you already have installed on your computer. They also offer trial versions of programs you have to pay for if you want to use past the trial period. FileHippo offers freeware programs which are programs that do the same thing as the programs you pay to use; they will be simple lighter versions of programs from their "pay for" counterparts that do the same exact thing.

You can also browse the categories of endless programs they have for whatever your needs may be.

File Hippo even offers BETA versions of programs just incase you want to get ahead of yourself and want to use a program version ahead of the stable version that is out. If you don't know a BETA version of a program is an unofficial version of a program which is put out by the company who created the program to help with working out the bugs before they make it an "official updated release". For example i'm using Yahoo IM version 9 while the current version out now is version 8.

Squidbillies

Its a show about a southern squid family living their lives day to day and taking life as it's given to them. Next to Frisky Dingo this is another good show that just has me laughing from start to finish.

Thanks, For Those Who Called

I want to thank all of those that called and left me a voicemail. Those that stood out and actually said their names are:

Carribbean Goddess
KimmyKimKim (you got a sexy voice too girl)

What i dont understand is the people who called a VOICEMAIL ONLY phone number and hung up. I just found it funny.

Out of the anonymous messages there was a few guys and girls who mumbled which i didn't like cuz i wanted to HEAR from everyone; a fellow Bronx dude who was concerned with what he called "homo references" when i would make fun of someone, i guess it made him uncomfortable and i cant forget my haters who since they had no one to actually speak too just went off and tried their best to hate in their voicemail message to me, it gave me a great laugh.

Thank you all again; if you feel like you want to leave me a voicemail then by all means call me at 1-206-309-8477. I check it once every one or two days.
