JamRock Indeed
I moved on from my last music post and dusted off a nice album that I would recommend to those who may have heard of him, but never got around to listening to his music let alone this wonderful album.
Damian Marley - Welcome To Jamrock
I highly recommend giving this a listen if you haven't or revisit it and make sure you have your speakers on high when jamming out to this wonderful album which (I believe, not sure) spawned the upcoming anticipated album Distant Relatives with Damian and Nas which i will be looking forward to.
Mind you, I have like over ten thousand songs on my drive that I collected over the years and its hard to zero in on good music that encompasses the whole album and this is one such album; others I would consider in this category would be (in no such order):
Maxwell - Urban Hangout Suite
Pharoahe Monch - Internal Affairs
Soundbombing Volume 2 (Fucking Amazing Album!)
DJ Honda - HII (Love the track "Travellin' Man - Mos Def)
99% Of Big Pun's stuff (Check previous post as to why)
A Tribe Called Quest - Midnight Marauder
Biggie - Ready To Die
Linkin Park - Hybrid Theory
KRS-One - Return Of The BoomBap
Joell Ortiz - The Bodega Chronicles
Wyclef Jean - Presents The Carnival
90% of Nirvana's Catalog (great music for my high school days)
I know; I KNOW there are other great ones out there and I know I'm leaving some personal ones out due to the fact I'm trying to get my thoughts together before I get distracted again and don't post for a while. Mind you I don't have a musical background nor do I write for a music magazine, these are my PERSONAL choices, but always open to recommendations.

A Car Driving By With A BOOMIN' System...
I guess from time to time when I find some interesting music I will post my opinion about it; such as the Travis Barker remix of Forever a few days ago.
The last FULL album i was rocking was that Slaughterhouse CD and that is PURE LYRICAL FIRE.
GET. IT. NOW. Especially if you are a hip hop lyrical head. Your walls will bleed when you blast that at home.
Right now what is making me deaf for the past few weeks since its release is Lil Wayne's No Ceiling Mixtape; now i know there are a bunch of people who couldnt give a fuck about him and thats cool; he's not my favorite, but he does rise above most who just rap about the same thing over and over and over again; I do enjoy his twist and style.
The ignorant side of me likes it a lot, but the side of me that acutally uses brain power sees it as a good listen, but since a free mixtape with him spitting with no apparent structure as he would for an album it lacks a path for someone to follow when listening to a story. Well except for songs that are geared towards women and his ability to be a playa and handle his chicks; he's kinda on point with those songs alone.
The beat jacking he does is cool and he picked some hot tracks to jack. My fav's are Wasted, Banned from TV and Run This Town; honorable mention is I Gotta Feeling.
The thing about him releasing this album for free to his fans is that most the songs (again) lacks a story line and just filled with punchline after punchline and over the top word play. He's basically saying the things he's saying to say them cuz he thinks they are hot, but i have to agree most of it is hot if that's the sort of thing you are into when you listen to music like this.
Out of 10 i would give this a 7.5; it's a good listen and a nice change from the songs that these beats belong to that play on the radio a hundred times a day.

Watching/Watched The VMA's

And it seems to me that they severely cut the budget to put this piece of shit on the air. Whom ever they fired that put together previous successful shows on the air, need to kiss his or her ass to get 2009 poppin' again.
Maybe it's a good indication that most of the commercials being played are shows created by and airing on MTV. Losing that sponsorship money must hurt. Oh by the way the huge L shaped notices with the past VMA trivia was really lame. A marquee at the bottom would have been much classier and easy on the eyes.
As far as the performances.........come on guys it was just glorified karaoke. Unless you have labor intensive performance where you wont have the breath to actually sing/rap the song cuz u dancing your ass off is just a waste of time.
Who thought it was cool to make a bunch of the announcements and award presentations from the isles next to the crowd of industry star wannabes and actual stars? Who from the looks of it they look like they don't even want to be there if MTV wasn't the one throwing the party.
Who is the ass clown hosting the show too? Never heard of him, no live stage presence and just dry wit does nothing to keep the show moving. The only laugh i seen him get was making a homo joke about him jerking off in the bathroom with Lil' Wayne. Yea find the ball you dropped MTV, the VMA's use to be the shit to watch.
And wow Jordan Sparks standing next to and presenting with John Legend.......she looked like she could fuck his ass up! She's a big girl.
Shout out to Nicky (Gioiaprivata) for keeping me company online while we laughed our asses off to this lame ass show; i think my fingers hurt from typing LOL so much.
Had This Freaking Verse In My Head For A While

Welcome to hell where Joell grew up at,
Where the crack heads try to sell you hub caps,
Where the hoe broads try to sell you butt crack,
So when you hit the crib your wife smells your nut sacks,
When i rhyme they say that i bring Pun back.
--------------------------------------------------------------
Artist: Joell Ortiz (Visit his blog listed on the right)
Album: DJ Nice & Legend: Joell Ortiz - The Brooklyn Bomber
Track 13 - 90's Free Agent Freestyle (Second verse)
My internet is gimp'ed right now so i can't post the whole album for download, but it was offered free online (i think) or i'm sure someone posted it for download if it wasn't. Google is your friend so don't be lazy and search.

Amazing Young Talent

With her amazing new single out now called "16 at War" she seems like someone who will blaze a trail with her talents.
My personal take on her single is that its amazing and a song worth listening to. This is the kind of song for the youth of this country with the shortest attention span in the world where the positive message can stick and they can feel they are not being preached to. I'm sure her album will reflect the many sides of her life and trials weather they be serious or just that young stuff, but i'm just glad a song like this is included among them for the simple fact is the youth must have a sense of the reality around them to prepare them for the trials of adulthood.
Check her out at her MySpace and DefJam webpages:

There are also youtube videos floating around showing her talents; if interested hit Google or youtube and search for them.

Seven Years Ago We Lost A Rap King In The Making

Of course he would rap about Money, Women, Sex, Flossin' and that thug shit, but just like 2Pac his rhymes were laced to address real world issues; taking jabs at political, racial and the class system that we still seem to be stuck in today. What was the best that he was able to put through his songs is to not get stuck with same same lingo that is regurgitated in the streets then on songs or vice versa; I believe he made it acceptable to talk normally and expand your vocabulary while not always resorting to "street slang" even when you're just chillin on the block.
In an interview with a few people in his crew they were surprised to always catch him reading the dictionary then they hear his rhymes and just stand amazed and have to run and look up what the hell he said and what it means.
Its just a sad fact that when some of the past heavyweights in the rap game are mentioned that he's left out 90% of the time.
As for my favorite songs right now (among many): Capital Punishment Ft. Prospect; Western Ways Ft. JuJu from the Beatnuts; Whatcha Gon Do?; Brave In The Heart & Where You At?.
