PSST...FREE INTERNET, But......

It's Dial-Up.

http://www.metconnect.com/

I discovered this service a long time ago when I got my first computer and broadband was not as widely available as it is now. I would suggest this service if you either cannot afford DSL/Cable internet connection, as a backup connection if your broadband connection shits out on you OR for an older family member who does not do any heavy downloading or power surfing on the internet and just needs to check email, I.M. chat and casual internet browsing.

1. All you will need is a Dial-up modem.
2. Phone service.
3. A phone line connected to your Dial-up modem.
4. Within Network Connections follow the New Connection Wizard, set up a internet connection manually and select the dial-up modem option and fill in the proper info.
5. MetConnect Access Numbers (Copy & Save #'s):
212-359-2000
347-562-0000
516-630-2000
631-236-0000
646-496-0000
845-727-9001
914-595-8001

Remember this is FREE service so don't get pissy if you get a busy signal, try another # or actually call the phone number before your computer dials up to see if you get an internet connection tone or a busy signal.

Within New York and corresponding area codes you will be charged as if you were making a regular phone call; it helps if you have an unlimited service so you won't get charged the length of time you've been using your phone line for this service. You can also set your connection (An option when you are up to of step 4 above) to disconnect when someone calls you. You can have them call your cell phone while you surf or suggest this to the person you are setting this up for.

If you're out of town then it will help if you have phone service with an unlimited regional/long distance service.

Most older computers usually have Dial-up modems by default. Because of high speed internet most new computers dont come with a Dial-up modem unless you request it.

If you already have a modem and never used it then you're not using it to its full potential cuz it doubles as a fax machine within your own computer (send & receiving). All you have to do is properly connect the phone line to your computer and enable the fax option within your operating system and learn how to use it. Please search online (Google) for the steps to achieve this.

Make sure you set this up right or forward this to your computer guy for further implementation. Dont blame my ass if you dont follow the step or do something wrong. I am open to answering any questions you may have about this.

DISCLAIMER: Please check and double check your voice services plan so you (or those you help) do not get charged insane fees with a "I think" mentality. Verify your phone plan and then start the above steps. I am in no way responsible for someone cutting corners and getting stuck with a huge phone bill.

FileHippo.com - For The Lazy Computer Asses

Have you ever had problems with certain important old computer programs and wish you knew where to get updates aside from Windows Update? Wanted freeware programs rather than pay another company for a program to do the same thing? Well FileHippo.com is for you.

They have an UPDATE CHECKER program you install on your computer and it automatically scans your computer for programs they offer updates for so you can stay up-to-date and not run into conflicts when doing your day to day computer/internet use. I can attest to this program as being AD & Malware free. You will not get pop-ups or any crazyness when installing this program.

I've been using FileHippo for a few months now and they are a good site to get updates to programs you already have installed on your computer. They also offer trial versions of programs you have to pay for if you want to use past the trial period. FileHippo offers freeware programs which are programs that do the same thing as the programs you pay to use; they will be simple lighter versions of programs from their "pay for" counterparts that do the same exact thing.

You can also browse the categories of endless programs they have for whatever your needs may be.

File Hippo even offers BETA versions of programs just incase you want to get ahead of yourself and want to use a program version ahead of the stable version that is out. If you don't know a BETA version of a program is an unofficial version of a program which is put out by the company who created the program to help with working out the bugs before they make it an "official updated release". For example i'm using Yahoo IM version 9 while the current version out now is version 8.

Squidbillies

Its a show about a southern squid family living their lives day to day and taking life as it's given to them. Next to Frisky Dingo this is another good show that just has me laughing from start to finish.

Thanks, For Those Who Called

I want to thank all of those that called and left me a voicemail. Those that stood out and actually said their names are:

Carribbean Goddess
KimmyKimKim (you got a sexy voice too girl)

What i dont understand is the people who called a VOICEMAIL ONLY phone number and hung up. I just found it funny.

Out of the anonymous messages there was a few guys and girls who mumbled which i didn't like cuz i wanted to HEAR from everyone; a fellow Bronx dude who was concerned with what he called "homo references" when i would make fun of someone, i guess it made him uncomfortable and i cant forget my haters who since they had no one to actually speak too just went off and tried their best to hate in their voicemail message to me, it gave me a great laugh.

Thank you all again; if you feel like you want to leave me a voicemail then by all means call me at 1-206-309-8477. I check it once every one or two days.

Amazing Young Talent

Karina Pasian

With her amazing new single out now called "16 at War" she seems like someone who will blaze a trail with her talents.

My personal take on her single is that its amazing and a song worth listening to. This is the kind of song for the youth of this country with the shortest attention span in the world where the positive message can stick and they can feel they are not being preached to. I'm sure her album will reflect the many sides of her life and trials weather they be serious or just that young stuff, but i'm just glad a song like this is included among them for the simple fact is the youth must have a sense of the reality around them to prepare them for the trials of adulthood.

Check her out at her MySpace and DefJam webpages:

There are also youtube videos floating around showing her talents; if interested hit Google or youtube and search for them.

Seven Years Ago We Lost A Rap King In The Making

Lyrically no one can touch this man. Still to this day no one can rhyme like him and couldn't hold a candle to his lyrically precise catalog. He made an impression on me not because he was a fellow South Bronx Puerto Rican, but his ability to surpass the mundane format of rap/hip-hop was at the time (even today).

Of course he would rap about Money, Women, Sex, Flossin' and that thug shit, but just like 2Pac his rhymes were laced to address real world issues; taking jabs at political, racial and the class system that we still seem to be stuck in today. What was the best that he was able to put through his songs is to not get stuck with same same lingo that is regurgitated in the streets then on songs or vice versa; I believe he made it acceptable to talk normally and expand your vocabulary while not always resorting to "street slang" even when you're just chillin on the block.

In an interview with a few people in his crew they were surprised to always catch him reading the dictionary then they hear his rhymes and just stand amazed and have to run and look up what the hell he said and what it means.

Its just a sad fact that when some of the past heavyweights in the rap game are mentioned that he's left out 90% of the time.

As for my favorite songs right now (among many): Capital Punishment Ft. Prospect; Western Ways Ft. JuJu from the Beatnuts; Whatcha Gon Do?; Brave In The Heart & Where You At?.

Damn I Have To Wait Damn Near A Month....

Last week i watched episodes 5, 6 and 7 of the most amazing show airing now. The Wire. This means the next new episode for me is the last week of February which kinda sucks.

How the fuck was i able to see the advanced episodes you ask? Well the show wrapped up a while ago and they finished prepping them for airing on HBO and they also hand out DVD Screeners and in turn people either get this taken from them or someone borrows them and puts them online and if by the last two posts you didn't know i'm a downloader. Apparently more are on the way but i haven't gotten my hands on them just yet.

If you thirsty to know what happens for the next two shows; let me know i'll tell you.

No Need To Be Ashamed If You Do...

Do you still read comics? I damn well do. Most find it immature or juvenile, but it's a part of our culture since the early 1930's and has help to shape the imaginations of so many that love this genre of story telling. Not every story is about someone in a cape or outfit fighting crime.

About two years ago i looked at my collections and really didn't feel like thumbing through them which kinda wears down the paper its printed on and was curious enough to see of copies can be found online. Low and behold i found some through a website which uses eMule to help share with people who want to transfer their collection to a digital format and have them stored them on a hard drive on their computer. It has since then expanded to me using eMule, uTorrent and now StrongDC++. Now i have a computer backup collection far beyond 280GB's while my paper collection grows also.

For backup purposes I get most of my comics in .CBR/.CBZ format from the StrongDC++ P2P Client. If you're just getting into this type of thing and you are use to the DCP/Minutemen torrents from the torrent trackers; this is where they get the comics to create the torrents for 0-day releases (same day scans, torrents usually turn up from Wednesday through Saturday).

The Z-Cult website was the perfect place for torrent trackers, 0-day and direct link downloads for all scanned comics. The only thing is the big two (Marvel & DC Comics) help put a stop to that which cuts out a lot of main stream comic scans available to people who join their site looking for comics to download. But they do release a lot of independent comics not owned by the big two.

Something like this is for the computer/home networking literate people. You will need to configure your router or firewall to be able to connect to the below services through certain ports or you will not be able to download with the proper speeds or not at all.

Below are links to resources that helped me compile my collection and show me the over all growth that comicbook industry has made over the decades.

Just Another Boring Ass Tuesday

Just finished a ton of work and have a few minutes to bullshit online before they get me working again.

I really try not to put myself out there online anymore since i'm "grown" (29). But hey cant be a hermit online, right? Just being careful.

Right now its getting colder and colder in NYC and not much to do if you really dont like the cold (me!). Makes me wish i was back at that slammin resort villa in the Dominican Republic when my sister had her wedding. People talk shit about DR, but when you're in one of the "posh" spots you have nothing but really good things to say and it was an amazing time where i just relaxed and didnt do anything must handled me also it was visually PERFECT. That was the house i stayed in with a pool as the porch and the second pic is a view from the opposite side lol.

If you the reader was wondering....I'm Puerto Rican.

More to come later...maybe....
